Music Types

Happy Halloween everybody!! Today, I am going to be talking about types of music. Before I get into the types of music, I am excited to inform you what I found in my research. I have discovered a really neat website for you all to check out! This is a website that consist of 1,264 different genres of popular music; a musical map of genres you probably didn't even know existed, called EveryNoise.com. The X-axis moves from dense and atmospheric music on the left to choppier, bouncier, sharper music on the right. Also, that the Y-axis moves from highly organic and acoustic music at the bottom to highly synthetic and mechanized dance forms at the top. The visual weight of each genre is determined by how actively its songs are currently being played, bought, reviewed, and discussed online. After visiting this website, I caught myself learning so many new artists and so many new genres! This website will give you the chance to explore the world of music.

So tell me, what is your favorite type of music? To answer this question, let me explain some of the basics. I'll start with classical music. Famous composers like Mozart wrote classical music. Classical music is often performed by an orchestra, which is a large group of musicians, or a choir, which is a group of singers, or a soloist which means only one person. Then, there is something called rhythm and blues. Jazz has a strong rhythm and notes are often syncopated (come between beats). The melody can be improvised and uses a wide range of different scales. Blues is a style of music famous for being sad. the lyrics often share stories from the touch lives of the people who write blues songs. Next, is Folk, better known as Country music. Folk music is the traditional music of a particular group of people. Country music is probably the most famous kind of folk music and is popular is many parts of the world. This kind of music consist of banjoes, acoustic and electric guitars, harmonicas and fiddles.

From the 1050's until today, Pop music is identified as the hits most often played on the radio, that which attracts the largest audiences and sells the most copies. Pop music describes music that evolved from the rock and roll revolution of the middle 1950's and continues in a definite route today. Rap is different to most music genres in that it is usually spoke, not sung. The words rhyme, like a poem, and fit to the strong beat of the background music. Rock music is famous for being loud. Rock groups use electric guitars, bass and drums to create music with a strong beat and lots of energy. Dance music is the kind of music you usually hear in clubs. It has a strong beat, often repetitive, but perfect for dancing to. If the music you like doesn't fit any of those categories, maybe you will like 'alternative'. This genre basically means that a small group of people like it. The alternative section is often where you will find the most unusual, interesting music. I love all of these categories, but alternative would have to be my favorite. What is yours?
